KUNA: Awards & Recognitions

The Kentucky YMCA Youth Association presents awards on the final morning of the conference in an effort to recognize and reward the achievements of our Ambassadors and Advisors. Awards are decided upon through Advisor nominations; nominations for your own school/students will not be counted. Before submitting, please ask your students for input based on what they saw. Please use the link below to submit your award nominations between 4:30 & 7:30pm on Day 2:

Delegation Awards

Outstanding Delegation

Awarded to a Premier Delegation recognized by its peers as having the overall highest quality of participation, level of preparedness, and behavior exemplifying the Y’s four core values and culture.

Outstanding Statesmanship

Awarded to one delegation recognized by its peers as having the highest overall quality of contribution to debate.

Conference Life Award

Awarded to one delegation recognized by its peers as creating a positive conference environment through the embodiment of the Y’s core culture values: nurturing, welcoming, genuine, hopeful, and determined

Best New Delegation

Awarded to one delegation who is also a first-time delegation at KUNA with the highest quality of participation, level of preparedness, and behavior exemplifying the Y’s four core values.

Premier Delegation

Presented to all delegations that meet the following requirements:

  • Delegation meets all conference requirements including: on-time and complete registration, on-time payment, full caucus participation, and on-time submission of awards nomination forms.
  • All delegation’s participants excel in the areas they choose to participate.
  • Their words and actions embody the spirit and purpose of the conference. (Participation in every program is encouraged but not required.)
  • Participants, advisors, and chaperones exemplify the Y’s four core values of Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • No major disciplinary issues (at discretion of Y-Staff).

Country Representation Awards

Outstanding Country Representation

Awarded to the country who best represents their culture and country through participation in debate. Also takes into consideration their representation throughout the conference (e.g. Resolutions, World Expo Presentation, Country Sign)

Outstanding Country Sign

Awarded to the country that best represents their country’s culture in the Parade of Nations with a student designed and assembled sign. The sign must be carried by only one student (alongside the student carrying the country flag) to be eligible for this award. Additionally, all country sign guidelines must be followed to be eligible.

World Expo Display

Awarded to all countries that represent the culture and traditions of their country with a World Expo display while meeting all requirements.

International Stage Performance

Awarded to all delegations that represent the culture and traditions of their country/countries with an International Stage Performance.

Resolution Associated Awards

Outstanding Resolution Packet

Awarded to the delegation whose Resolutions demonstrate the highest level of preparation, presentation, and relevance based on student ranking.

Outstanding Resolution

Awarded to the Country and sponsors with the most innovative, well-researched,and thought-provoking resolution based on student ranking.

Additionally, Resolutions can also be honored with the following awards:

  • Endorsed by Secretary General – Resolutions that, after being passed in Voting Committees or General Assembly and brought to the Secretary General, were endorsed as part of the platform of the Secretary General.
  • Secretary General’s Choice – A Resolution chosen by the Secretary General to be debated in General Assembly on the basis of high ranking, passage in Voting Committees, audience with the sponsors, and importance to debate with an American perspective.
  • Schools’ Choice (2) – Resolutions selected by schools to be debated in General Assembly on the basis of Committee performance and importance to the global community.
  • Passed by Voting Committee– Resolutions recognized as approved by the UN after being passed by Voting Committees.

Individual Awards

Outstanding Doorkeeper

Given to the student(s) who best uphold the duty of Doorkeeper by being prompt, respectful, helpful, accurate, and effective.

Outstanding Speaker

Awarded to the top Ambassadors most frequently nominated by Advisors based on their presence and performance in Committees, Summits, and General Assemblies as well as behavior exemplifying of the Y’s four core values.

Outstanding Ambassador

Awarded to one Ambassador per school nominated by Advisors based on their presence and performance prior to and at the conference, as well as behavior exemplifying of the Y’s four core values.

Program Area Awards

Outstanding Security Council Team

Given to a team from the Security Council program for outstanding presence and performance in Security Council sessions.

Outstanding Advocate Teams - HS Only

Awarded to the two teams from the ICJ program based on the evidence of their preparation, quality of their presentation, and behavior exemplifying the Y’s four core values.

Individual Program Area Awards - HS ONLY!

Outstanding Advocate

Given to an ICJ delegate for their outstanding quality of presentation and behavior exemplifying The Y’s four core values.

ICJ Case Winners (2 Teams)

Given to the winning teams of both the Contentious and Advisory Cases heard by the International Court of Justice.

Outstanding Media Corps Delegate

Awarded to the Media Corps member who puts forth the most effort, displays genuine teamwork, produces a quality product, and behaves in a manner exemplifying the Y’s four core values.

Senior Cords

The Kentucky YMCA has Senior Cords available for all seniors who attend KYA or KUNA their senior year. Below are the qualifications for Senior Cords:

Explanation of Cord Eligibility:

    • Red/White/Blue single cord is given to those who have attended at least TWO KYA and/or KUNA CONFERENCES, including the one they are at when cords are given.
    • Red/White/Blue and Silver double cord is given to those who have attended KYA and/or KUNA for FOUR YEARS.
    • NOTE: Seniors must be present at their Senior KYA/KUNA to receive their cord. *Absence due to illness is excused, but cords will not be mailed. 

Seniors who meet the qualifications listed above will be eligible for a cord, but still will be required to do one of the following to receive the cords:

    • If a senior Student Y Member, the cost of the cord is included in the Student Y fee. They will be distributed at the conference.
    • If a senior is not a member, they will have the option to purchase the cord they qualify for at the Y-Store during normal hours.

*Seniors who received their cords during KYA will NOT get cords at their KUNA conference
