Become a Kentucky YMCA Volunteer!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Kentucky YMCA Youth Association! Volunteers are at the heart of what we do here at the Y; you make our programs possible. Volunteers fill vital roles at our programs and leave lasting impacts on our students and staff. Whether you are an alum of our programs, an experienced volunteer, or totally new to our organization, we are so excited to have you on our team.

The Y offers a wide variety of youth and government, leadership development, advocacy, and service learning programs. Likewise, we offer an exciting, equally diverse array of volunteer opportunities! Please feel free to explore the list of programs to the left to see what kinds of programs might best fit your interests.

For any questions regarding volunteers, please reach out to Nicole Hankins at nicole@kyymca.org.

Y-Corps 2024 -- Registration Open
Y-Corps is our premier service-learning program, taking place over the course of six months leading up to this volunteer opportunity. Due to the nature of Y-Corps and the commitment necessary, this is an application-based volunteer opportunity with limited spots available. Volunteers will be required to commit consecutive days to the program and be able to take on long, high-intensity travel days. Learn more and apply now! Applications will be due by April 10th, 2024!

Leadership Training Conference (LTC) 2024 -- Registration Open

Our summer character development conference, LTC allows volunteers to serve our students directly. Serving as a facilitator, volunteers lead our Character Development programming and moderate conversations among students with the goal of allowing them a space to grow. Serving as Resource Staff, volunteers help with conference set-up and behind-the-scenes magic, creating the seamless experience that our students enjoy, including setting up for Carnival, Y-Athalon, and Family Game Night.

Due to the high volume of volunteers requesting to attend LTC, we request that all volunteers attend for the entirety of the conference and should reach out to nicole@kyymca.org with any concerns. For more information and the registration link when it becomes available, look through the LTC RolesApplications due by June 1, 2024.

What Our Volunteers Have to Say ...

Jamie Clark and h
Jamie Clark and her mentor Joe Bringardner, at Jamie's innaguration into the KY YMCA Hall of Fame

"I attended my first KYA in 1994 as a 6th grader! I remember feeling so completely out of place and inadequate. I was raised in Appalachia and as such, opportunities to be with people of differing backgrounds were scarce. I went to almost every KYA/KUNA throughout high school and in the latter half of high school, I finally attended LTC and GFI which were truly the perspective shift I needed. Those conferences gave me friends, interests, and values I had never been exposed to before. They shaped me for the better and I'm incredibly grateful for those experiences that came at just the right time in my life.

I decided I wanted to be a high school social studies teacher in no small part because of my experiences with the youth in government programs. I requested my student teaching placement to occur at Henry Clay High School because of their legacy as a highly awarded Y-Club school. I've been here for 17 years now and other than a bit of a break for my own children, I've still been coming to KYA/KUNA trying to pour back into the program some of what I was initially given."
