We are excited to partner with organizations here in Kentucky and around the nation and world that provide resources and support to our Student Y Chapters, ensuring their service makes a lasting and meaningful impact:
- Local Service | Inspire Kentucky & Kentucky Secretary of State
During the fall, chapters serve their local communities and Commonwealth by registering as many eligible voters in their schools and communities as possible. Chapters plan their projects with the help of Inspire Kentucky, which provides training and tools to efficiently and successfully register voters. The Secretary of State’s Office provides additional resources, including online voter registration.
- Global Service | Waterstep
During the winter/spring, chapters serve the global community by collecting used or worn-out shoes in support of Waterstep’s efforts to increase access to clean drinking water around the world. Waterstep is a Kentucky-based non-profit with global impact, serving communities around the world and using community shoe collections to fund their efforts. Chapters bring their collected shoes with them to KUNA, where we announce school and statewide collection totals.
- WE Day | WE Day Kentucky
The Kentucky YMCA is proud to partner with WE Day – an international movement to promote and celebrate service in our local and global communities. WE Day Kentucky is a day-long celebration in Louisville for students from across the Commonwealth who engage in local and global service throughout the year. Thanks to our local and global service partners, Student Y Chapters qualify for WE Day by completing projects with each partner! Chapters can register to attend at www.wedayky.org.

- Youth Service America | Global Youth Service Day
For those chapters who cannot attend WE Day, or wish to expand the impact of their service, the Kentucky YMCA is one of many youth organizations partnering with Youth Service America (YSA) for their annual Global Youth Service Day. Make sure your chapter plans a project on or around the dates below, reports the project on MobileServe, and posts the project on the GYSD webpage.
April 21-23, 2017 | Worldwide
In addition to projects with our service partners, all Student Y Chapters should plan and participate in a variety service opportunities throughout the year. We organize year-round service into three levels, which collectively represent the overall service of your chapter:
- Chapter Service – serving with other members of your chapter
- Collaborative Service (Multi-Chapter) – serving with at least one other chapter
- Individual Service – members serving independently
To receive service points towards your overall chapter rankings, chapters and members must report service using MobileServe, our service reporting app. If you chapter has questions or needs help with MobileServe, please send an email to email@example.com.
When logging hours on MobileServe, you will first indicate what level of Student YMCA service you participated in (Chapter, Collaborative, Individual). Additionally, you will indicate the Service Impact Area for your hours, which identifies if your service was with one of our partners, or a more general area of service for the work you performed.
To help you plan chapter, collaborative, and individual service throughout the year, we’ve organized several types of service opportunities you can take part in, or use as inspiration for your own projects. As you are planning service for your chapter, be sure to consult the Service Planning Guide from the online chapter resources folder.
- Service Opportunity Database
This database is a one-stop shop for service. The first tab of the database lists upcoming opportunities in communities around Kentucky, and is updated live as we receive them. The second tab of the database lists general ideas for service projects, and the third tab provides project ideas for taking part in WE Campaigns.

- We Campaigns
As part of our partnership with WE Day, we encourage your chapter to part in a WE Campaign. There are 12 campaigns to choose from (one per month, if you want!) each with a theme and focus for your service project. To learn about each campaign, visit www.we.org/campaigns
