KYA FAQ

Q. Who runs KYA?

  • Our student Presiding Officers lead each KYA, but YMCA Staff, teachers, and volunteer advisors are always present to keep things running smoothly and safely.
  • Each delegation is required to bring at least 1 advisor per 15 students

 

Q. Where is KYA held?

  • On Day 2 of KYA, students travel to Frankfort, KY to debate in the State Capitol.

 

Q. Which KYA should my delegation attend?

  • Grades 6-8 attend Middle School KYA, and Grades 9-12 attend High School KYA.
  • Your delegation may choose which KYA to attend based upon the dates that work best for you, but spaces are limited so be sure to fill out the KYA Intent Form.

 

Q. How much does KYA cost?

  • $240 for Student Y Members and $250 for non-Student Y Members. There is a $10 discount per student for on time completed registration and payment. To affiliate as a Student Y, complete the Affiliation Process.
  • $135 for Advisors (sharing a hotel room – may be paired with an advisor from another delegation). Private rooms may be available for an additional fee.
  • For every 15 students attending KYA, you get $135 discount towards advisor fees (discount value is equal to 1 advisor sharing a room)
    **Please note: Advisor discount may not exceed $135 per advisor attending.
  • These fees include: Lodging, Day 2 Lunch and Dinner, Day 3 Breakfast, program materials, and transportation to and from the Capitol in Frankfort.

 

Q. Is Financial Aid available?

  • Yes – the Y is committed to ensuring access for all interested students.
  • To be considered, a student and parent/guardian must complete the aid application and submit it by the deadline for your KYA – Financial Aid Application
