Candidates

Presiding Officer Candidates

Schools must be affiliated Student Ys to have students run as Candidates. Schools must affiliate each year by submitting the Student Y Affiliation Form.

  • Candidates do not run for specific positions. All candidates are running for KUNA Presiding Officer. The general election results determine which Presiding Officer position a candidate receives (see chart below).
  • Candidates are not part of any program area. They are given special placards and name tags allowing them to speak in all Committees and Summits to ensure they are visible to all potential voters.
  • Schools develop their own process to determine who they select as their Candidates, usually elections if there are multiple interested students.

Candidate Requirements

In addition to the requirements listed below, make sure your Advisor lists you as a Candidate on your school’s KUNA Registration Form before it is submitted.

As a Presiding Officer Candidate, I agree to the following requirements:

  • Print the Presiding Officer Commitment Form (PDF), have it signed by your Advisor & Parent/Guardian, and bring it to the required Candidates Meeting on Day 1 of KUNA along with a copy of your Candidate Speech for Y Staff to review.
  • Review and adhere to all rules and procedures on the Campaigns & Elections page. I understand that my or my delegation’s failure to conduct my campaign in an appropriate manner will result in my disqualification as a candidate
  • Organize at least 1 Student Y Service Project and report it on MobileServe:
    • Download MobileServe if you haven’t already!
    • Click on Settings (the Gear Icon)
    • Under “Join Organization,” enter the code 0AD321. This will add you as a candidate – it does not remove you from your other organization like your Student Y Chapter.
    • This project must be completed prior to KUNA.
    • Question about MobileServe? Email olivia@kyymca.org
  • I have attended at least 3 assemblies (KUNA/KYA) including 1 KUNA if I am a High School Candidate, and at least 2 assemblies (KYA/KUNA) including 1 KUNA if I am a Middle School Candidate
  • I am in good standing with my Student Y and School Administration, and have at least a “C” GPA (or equivalent).
