Service to the CommonwealthClick Here to ApplyOn this eight-day trip, students will perform service across the Commonwealth of Kentucky, as well as learn about the area’s rich cultural history. In the past, service projects have included building houses with Habitat for Humanity, working with kids at Henderson’s the W.C. Handy Festival, creating new beds in Frankfort’s community gardens, and rehabbing a local YMCA in Danville. Cultural experiences have included touring reclaimed mine sites, visiting the Appalshop, and concerts with Ben Solee. Each participant pledges to raise at least five hundred dollars prior to the trip. This money will be used to cover the trip expenses and to support the Kentucky YMCA Youth Association’s Scholarship Fund. This fundraising is an important component of the trip as it helps to develop valuable skills for anyone seeking to make a difference at a community level. The Y will provide resources to help students to secure the funds necessary to participate. In addition to performing service projects and learning about Kentucky’s cultural heritage, students on the Y-Corps Service Trip will learn valuable leadership skills and foster meaningful relationships with their service team mates. The goal of Y-Corps is to help students learn the value of service to others and continue service as a way of life.
