Re: YMCA
Conference on National Affairs Final Update
I hope you are enjoying your summer break. We are just a few weeks away from our journey
to the Blue Ridge Mountains for CONA—here are the final
details:
Once again, our delegation will connect with the Missouri
and Ohio delegations for a
pre-trip experience. Join our out of
state guests in Louisville for a
day of team building, proposal sharing, and some quality time hanging with your
Y-Pals. Remember, this is a mandatory session—I expect all to be there. We will
meet at the Downtown YMCA (555 S. 2nd St., downtown Louisville) at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27th.
We will NOT be able to leave cars, so
please car pool and arrange to be dropped off at the Y. You will need to bring a sleeping bag and pillow,
casual attire, and $10.00 for breakfast and the lock-in. We will spend the afternoon downtown at Riverfront
Park and the Great Lawn then walk
to 4th Street
Live for dinner (several cool places like the HardRock Café—bring money for
your own dinner). After dinner we will
return to the Y for the lock-in.
PACKING: Please review the on line handbook for
packing tips. Swimsuit/trunks are recommended for the one afternoon of free
time. A coat and tie or dress/dress
outfit MUST be worn to ALL General Assembly sessions. Remember, we are in the
mountains and comfortable dress shoes are a must for going up and down the
hillside. A sweatshirt or sweater would be most appropriate in the evening for
free time and mixer events; it can get chilly at night. You may bring ONE (1) AND ONLY ONE SUITCASE,
which you must carry upstairs to your room!!
TRANSPORTATION: Via Charter Bus
Depart: Saturday, June 28th at 8:00 a.m. from the Downtown YMCA (lock-in
site)
Return: Friday
morning, July 4th, 7:30/8:00
a.m. at the Executive West Hotel, near the airport and the Fairgrounds
(same Hotel were we have KYA & KUNA).
The CONA Passport, Delegate Contract, and Health Form are
REQUIRED!!! You will present these to us before you board the bus. Fifty to Sixty dollars ($50- $60) dollars
will take care of any extras you may wish to purchase such as meals on the road,
souvenirs, day trip, snacks, etc. We
hope to have Kentucky pins at the
conference, which will allow you to trade with other states. Remember
to visit www.YMCACONA.org to review the conference handbook—I expect
you to know EVERYTHING in this book.
As a former CONA delegate and collegiate volunteer, please
know how proud I am to be your Trip Director and Advisor. I have been leading the Kentucky
delegation for the past 17 years and it is my hope that each of you will
discover the “Blue Ridge Spirit” and have a truly life changing experience.
Pura Vida
