The World is YoursIf you don’t change it, who will? Go Global is a voluntary service and capacity-building program that places young adults (18+) from the United States and Canada with overseas YMCAs and other community organizations/NGOs. Go Global volunteers fully immerse themselves in the culture of their host countries and work in fields such as capacity building, youth development, English instruction, general administration. Volunteers gain first hand knowledge of the social issues, challenges and successes of their host country, community and our global village. Who Can Apply
Types of Go Global ProgramsGlobal Alternative BreaksThe YMCA cooperates with interested colleges, universities and YMCAs across the US in facilitating global alternative break or internship abroad programs. Participants engage in language study, service learning, historical & cultural tours, and meaningful interaction with other young adults.Teach AbroadParticipants travel abroad for a three-month to one-year service opportunity to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) or vocational skills to youth or adults in a specific country. Experience in teaching, education, group facilitation, or youth development is required. The YMCA works in conjunction with partner organizations to ensure the best possible experience for all volunteers.Go Global Service CorpsVolunteers are placed directly with a host YMCA and engage in an intensive individualized service experience. Volunteers live with host families or in youth hostels and work directly with the staff of the host organization and the local community to bring about sustainable positive change in host communities.Where do Volunteers Go?Historically, Go Global Volunteers have served in:
